Master's Programme of Fine Arts in Literary Translation, 60 hec

This is an educational programme to become a translator of literary texts from other languages into Swedish. This programme is intended for those who are already active as translators, i.e. translators who have made their debut or are close to doing so, and established translators who wish to develop and pursue continued professional development within a new genre or a new language. It is Sweden’s most advanced programme of its kind.

As a literary translator, one’s work comprises the translating of fiction, often as commissioned assignments from publishing companies. This programme also provides the skills to conduct advanced, critical talks on fiction, which are skills required in one’s role as a publisher’s reader, editor or literary critic.
This programme is a is a two-year part-time, distance programme with timetabled teaching taking place 4 to 5 weekends per semester. During the second year, students write a master’s paper. This programme leads to a Master of Fine Arts in Literary Translation.
In order to be qualified to apply, one of the requirements is a very good knowledge of Swedish. More information on this programme can be found on Valand Academy’s Swedish web pages >>
