This educational opportunity is specifically targeted at recent graduates at MFA level who are interested in exploring their own potential to develop as educators and to gain experience in educational project work and applied critical pedagogy and ambitious project development work. This is also a pathway for those interested in developing research proposals giving them an opportunity to work in a dynamic and transformative academic context and understand what a research process entails.  

The basic purpose of this learning opportunity is to enable and enhance the participants’ knowledge and understanding of critical artistic pedagogy, critical project management practices, and the change potentials within higher arts education as a form of responsible critical practice - combining organisational competency with critical reflexive insight. We wish to learn together how we can join critical position to practical agency in a community of critical dialogue and challenge.

Entrance requirements and application

Entrance Requirements:

Fine arts Masters degrees in fine arts, photography, film or literary composition or equivalent.

Selection: The places are divided between three groups; applicants with an artistic degree in film, applicants with an artistic degree in fine art and applicants with an artistic degree in photography. The selection is based on work samples. Information and instructions for the work samples can be found under the course or program description at http://www.akademinvaland.gu.se/.

How to Apply

The course is given Spring 2018.

The application consists of two tasks:

  1. Sign up in antagning.se latest 15 October 2017.
  2. Submit your portfolio electronically via our submission website DAP latest 23 October 2017.

What to submit in DAP:

  1. Submit a recent CV
  2. Submit a letter of intention
  3. Submit an example of your written work in English, such as a recent artist’s statement or other art related piece of written work.

Submit a letter of intention in Swedish or English, of approximately 500 words (not more than 800 words).

The letter should contain:

  • How will this course in Spring 2018 build upon your current learning and project activities of 2017? Purpose of question: We ask for this to help us understand your level of reflection on your own learning and development.
  • What kinds of practical artistic / creative project work are you interested in developing? Purpose of question: We ask for this to help identify what you are hoping to develop in terms of your own practice.
  • Which subjects and programmes in the academy would you most like to interact with? Purpose of question: We ask for this to help identify what contexts and teams you might like to work with.
  • Please add anything that you consider relevant in support of your wish to work at the academy on this educational opportunity.


The allocation of places will be based on:

  • The quality of the letter of motivation and responses to the questions identified above
  • The suitability of the applicant to benefit from this learning opportunity as indicated in the CV and the letter of motivation
  • Communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to working in a complex academic environment as demonstrated at interview applicants who satisfy (i) and (ii) above will be called to interview for the purpose of establishing (iii)

Interviews will take place on 1 November 2017.
