Exchange studies at Valand Academy

Students studying Fine Art or Photography at one of Valand Academy’s partner universities are welcome to apply for an exchange semester at Valand Academy.

If you are interested in applying, the first thing you should do is check with the Exchange Coordinator or International Office at your home university to see if your home university/department has an exchange agreement with Valand Academy or University of Gothenburg. To be able to apply you then need to be nominated by your home university.

As a student here you get your own work place and you have access to workshops suitable to your subject, as well as access to the Art Library during days and evenings.

Semester dates at Valand Academy

Autumn semester 2019: 2 September - 19 January
(Exchange students sometimes have the possibility to end their studies in the end of December)

Spring semester 2020: 20 January - 7 June

Courses and credits

When you apply for exchange studies at Valand Academy you apply to one of our programmes. If you are accepted you will follow the courses within that programme. One of the courses per semester (7,5 credits) is elective, and is studied together with students from all programmes.

Exchange students can also follow a “practice course” where they are given room to develop their individual artistic practice with supervision by the teachers.

The total amount of credits for one semester is 30 credits (equivalent of ECTS). Valand Academy uses a two-grade grading scale, Pass and Fail.
