Call for Managing Editor for Our Many Europes

News: Aug 29, 2018

The Valand Academy received an EU cultural bid for the period 2018-2022. The bid concerns the work of L’Internationale Online – a Museum network research initiative. The call for applications for the post of Managing Editor is now open.

L'Internationale Museum Research Network proposes a space for art within a non-hierarchical and decentralized internationalism, based on the value of difference and horizontal exchange among a constellation of cultural agents, locally rooted and globally connected. The network comprises seven major European museums, Modena Galerija (MG+msum, Ljubljana, Slovenia); Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid, Spain); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium); SALT (Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey), Musem of Modern Art in Warsaw (Warsaw, Poland) and Van abbemuseum (Eindhoven, Netherlands).

For the Our Many Europes project, L’Internationale is working together with lead academic partner Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and the National College of Art and Design (Ireland).

– Our Many Europes (OME) is focusing on the artistic cultures of the 1990s, viewed as the decade that decisively shaped contemporary European cultural politics. Our Many Europe’s consortium is led by the museum confederation L’Internationale which connects North and South, East and West, says Mick Wilson, head of department at Valand Academy.

A key part of the Our Many Europes work programme will be the further development of L’Internationale Online – a research publishing and critical dialogue forum. Valand Academy will host the managing editor for L’Internationale Online. The Managing Editor coordinates, both practically and strategically, a lively platform for disseminating research and opinions on art, culture and society. He or she will also teach part time (20%) – through English – at the Valand Academy. The teaching content will be based on the skills and content of the work programme of L’Internationale.

– This will give our students the opportunity to access the work of this network of leading modern and contemporary art museums in Europe. Additionally, members of the network will visit Gothenburg each year and will meet our students and staff, providing them with access to leading arts professionals from across Europe, Mick Wilson says.
