International Conference on Art and locality

News: Aug 29, 2017

Valand Academy is taking part in the organising of the conference "Curating after the Global: Roadmaps for the Present" in Arles, France, in September - together with two influential organisations in the art world: LUMA Foundation and CCS Bard.

“Curating after the Global: Roadmaps for the Present” addresses curating with respect to questions of locality; geopolitical change; the reassertion of nation states; and violent diminishing of citizen and denizen rights across the globe. To speak of a globalised art world, and art as a driver of globalisation, has become very common, but what does it mean to be global or to be local, when it is a question of artistic practice.

– We are proud to serve as co-producers for this conference. The questions being addressed here are important to us at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, and now we will have the possibility to discuss them in a more extensive network. Through our collaboration with organisations such as LUMA and CCS Bard we can be a part of impacting the future development of our subject field internationally too, says Mick Wilson, Head of Department at Valand Academy, who is one of the participants at this conference.

From our Faculty, University Lecturer Kjell Caminha, and Professor Andrea Phillips (both from Valand Academy) will also be taking part in the conference.
