As a critic, curator and lecturer at Konstfack, Stockholm during the 1990s, Hans Hedberg played a vital role in the establishment of photography as an artistic practice. During his time as the Prefect of Valand Academy and the Dean of Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg in the 2000s, Hans Hedberg had a vital role in the emergence of artistic research in Sweden.

To honor the memory of Hans Hedberg, Konstfack and Valand Academy are jointly organising a symposium, which in Hedberg’s spirit will focus on what is happening in contemporary art today.

We have asked friends and colleagues who have worked closely with Hans Hedberg over the years to invite people with strong presence in contemporary art, in order to interpret what is happening within the field of and to highlight the most urgent issues.

When Hans Hedberg passed away in Spring 2016, he was working on his own research project ‘Mått Mätt Mot’ financed by the Swedish Research Council. This symposium revolve questions around art, science, and environment - subjects that occupied Hans Hedberg in the recent years.

The symposium has been moved to Autumn 2017 and will take place at Konstfack.
